How Active Can I Be in the Gym While Trying to Get Pregnant?

A woman can be as active in the gym as she wants while trying to conceive, says Dr. Manijeh Kamyar, maternal-fetal medicine specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Utah. In fact, Kamyar recommends women maintain the same exercise routine before and during pregnancy. “People used to think that you can’t let your heart rate go too high while you’re pregnant, as this could affect the baby’s oxygenation and growth,” says Kamyar. “It’s just not true — women who exercise in pregnancy have better pregnancy outcomes than those who don’t.” However, Kamyar recommends you don't adopt a new or more strenuous exercise regimen once you find out you are pregnant.
