Although genetics do sometimes play a role in a woman's ability to conceive, just because your sister had difficulty getting pregnant, it doesn't mean you will, too. "Some of the causes of infertility have nothing to do with genetics whatsoever," says ob-gyn Shahin Ghadir, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility physician with Southern California Reproductive Center. According to Ghadir, age, ovulation disorders and dysfunction with the fallopian tubes play a role in infertility, in addition to genetics.
