While a daily walk to maintain a healthy pregnancy is just what the doctor ordered, the extra activity won't necessarily make you dilate more. You may be paving the way for a smoother birth, however. Dr. Gia Fruscione, New Jersey-based physical therapist and founder of DLVR Maternity, says walking may ensure that you dilate on time and will help get you ready for the big day. “Consistent exercise during pregnancy helps tone and prepare your muscles for labor, and makes for an easier birthing process,” she notes. But don't overdo it. Walking is fine throughout your pregnancy as long as you do not push yourself to the point of pain.
