Can I Exercise While Trying to Get Pregnant?

If you are at high risk for miscarriage or undergoing fertility treatments, avoid starting a strenuous exercise regimen that includes lifting weights or running, says OB/GYN Maher Abdallah, based in Newport Beach, California. Mild exercises, stretches and walking routines work well.

A general rule of thumb is that your heart rate should not exceed 120 beats per minute while exercising if you are also trying to get pregnant, adds Abdallah, a reproductive endocrinologist who is board certified to treat infertility.
