The great myth of Mardi Gras is that it’s all about drunken frat boys begging equally sloshed women to take off their tops. But those shenanigans are limited to a few blocks of bawdy Bourbon Street. Local residents have always thought of Carnival as family time. They take their kids to the parades and clamor for float riders to throw them beads, toys and bouncy balls.
Wear costumes so you can all be part of the celebration. They don’t have to be elaborate as long as they’re fun.
