As a guy who shaves his head, Colorado resident Greg Wickherst hasn't spent much time worrying about hair styles. But that changed when the tresses on his 3-year-old daughter Izzy began to grow out. Since he has primary custody, Wickherst's duties include getting Izzy ready in the morning. But there was one daily task that left him constantly befuddled: her hairdo.
"I didn’t want to be the dad that just didn’t know how to do my daughter’s hair," he told BuzzFeed News.
After realizing he could barely put Izzy's hair in a ponytail, Wickherst reached out to the cosmetology department at IntelliTec College, where he works as an admissions representative. Using his lunch breaks, he began practicing on a mannequin. Quickly gaining confidence with a bun and then the French braid, the dedicated dad turned out to be a natural who went on to foster his own complex creations.
But even sweeter than the pride Wickherst feels for buns, braids and bows is the joy he takes in raising his daughter.
“My favorite part of the day is when I wake her up and get her out of bed and she’s still sleepy, so she nuzzles her face into my neck. … That love right there, feeling that love and that trust is the most rewarding part,” he told BuzzFeed.
