10 Father's Day Movies to Watch With a Father

In honor of Father's Day weekend, I put together a list of some of the greatest films depicting fathers and fatherhood. (Not all of which are child-friendly, ahem.)

Let's all cuddle on the couch this weekend and laugh and cry. Want to join us? To fatherhood!

1. Father of the Bride

Steve Martin NAILS it as a neurotic yet WHOLLY loyal father to his soon-to-be-married daughter. Welcome to the '90s, Mr. Banks.

2. The Empire Strikes Back

Not ALL fathers can be winners. In "The Empire Strikes Back" we find out that the relationship between father and son is often ... complicated.

3. The Pursuit of Happyness

Inspired by the true story of a single father left homeless with his preschool-age son, "The Pursuit of Happyness" proves that determination is nothing without love.

4. Hook

Boy becomes man. Man becomes father. Father puts career before family. Children get kidnapped by father's former nemesis. Father goes to Neverland to save them AND himself. We all cheer.

5. Nebraska

"Nebraska" battles and embraces the contradictions that occur within familial relationships, specifically that of father and son. What happens when the parent becomes the child? How does one divide their loyalties when they wish to both protect and support their parent/child?

6. The Astronaut Farmer

What does it mean to dream? In this family-friendly film, a father defies the odds and, with the help of his family, proves everyone wrong. To dreamers!

7. Despicable Me

How many daughters does it take to turn a super-villian into a super-father? In "Despicable Me," the answer is "three." (That rhymed.)

8. Beginners

One of the greatest father/son films of our tine, "Beginners" is about the new beginnings of two men and their old bonds as father and son.

9. Mrs. Doubtfire

What will a newly divorced father do to have more time with his children? In this classic tearjerker, the answer is "anything."

10. To Kill a Mockingbird

Two words: Atticus Finch.
