14 Ways You and Your Threenager Are Basically the Same Person

Photograph by Twenty20

Do you ever have moments where it seems as though you and your threenager are living parallel lives? It's kind of funny to look at the similarities you share beyond eye color or other physical characteristics and various personality traits. At times it's hard not to laugh at those similarities; other times it's hard not to cry.

Most often when we see ourselves in our children it helps us to be more patient, empathetic even. Obviously if we're still coming unglued ourselves we can't expect them to always hold it together, right? Here are a few ways you and your threenager may be just alike.

1. You can pretty much fall asleep anywhere—riding home, while watching a movie or even during your favorite television show.

Funny to think that once upon a time you pulled all-nighters in the name of your college education.

2. Also, you tend to get a little cranky when overly tired.

3. You are known to get hangry (hungry + angry).

All the reason to keep snacks in your purse for yourself too rather than just your little one.

4. You both have a tendency to go until you just can't anymore.

You've got so much to do and your threenager doesn't want to miss anything. Besides, who needs sleep anyway? You've been dealing with sleep deprivation for at least three years, what's another 15?

5. You want your way.

At times you can be a little demanding of the people you love.

6. You wear your favorite piece of clothing over and over

Or maybe it's just you haven't had a chance to do laundry?

7. When you've got to go you've really (really really) got to go.

8. You've got a (current) favorite song and it's on repeat when your kid isn't in the car.

And when she is, it's their favorite song on repeat.

9. If you happen to see someone eating you'll remember that you're kind of hungry, too.

10. You've got a favorite movie and can watch it over and over.

It never gets old.

11. You can be quite moody.

12. You cry for no apparent reason.

Really, it doesn't take much to make you cry.

13. Hugs work wonders.

For me a hug from my husband or my children can add a glimmer of light to my darkest nights. And our hugs work magic when it comes to our littles.

14. Praise aka positive feedback and affirmations make you feel good.
