Toddler Talk: DIY Funny Face Plate

At our house, we try to make everything fun. From doing our chores to eating dinner, we play! My daughter Adair and I recently made these funny face plates, and they are now a must for every meal. Adair has so much fun "decorating" these faces with her favorite foods. Not to mention, I think it's helping her eat! She's more excited about the food on her funny face plate, so we may have to make several more. We're learning about different parts of the face, all while having fun and creating a work of art. Best of all, this project is super easy!

All you need:

White ceramic ovenproof plate

Black permanent marker

What you do:

First, decide on a face design. I did a couple of searches to get ideas for funny faces, then practiced a few designs on a sheet of paper. I chose to only draw eyes and a mouth so that everything else could be made with food.

Make sure your plate is clean and dry before drawing. Carefully draw the face onto the plate with your permanent marker. (Feel free to use my step-by-step photos, below, as a guide!) I just did it by hand, but you could certainly trace around something for more precise lines. Go over your lines a few times so that they are thick and black. Fill in any holes with permanent marker until you have the design you like.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Bake your plates for 30 minutes. Allow them to cool completely before use.

For best results, hand wash only.
